I’ll try to be brief. I give the phone 5 stars without hesitiation. Others have provided very good (or bad reviews) for this phone, and usually they are right there. The key to this phone, you need to know why you want this phone, this phone and your needs. You do not have an unreasonable request. The strength of this phone is its cost compared to activated. In my opinion, there simply is no phone that offers such a range of functions, while the cost < $ 250.
If (you buy an iPhone and pay ~ $ 1000 total – want) $ 200 for phone + $ 720 for 2 year data plan @ $ 30/month, not not buy this phone. Buy instead of the Iphone. This phone is no iPhone, no iPhone killer, and not a substitute for an iPhone.
If you want to buy a Garmin GPS, do not buy this phone. Garmin GPS instead. This is not a replacement for GPS.
If you want to buy a good digital camera, do not buy this phone. Canon or Nikon. This is not a substitute for the camera.
If you want to buy an FM radio, do not buy this phone. Who needs an FM radio anyways.
If you want to buy a music player, this phone actually function is really nice.
The above is said to buy this phone if you want a great phone and all the above without having to bear all the gadgets above at the same time. In particular, as:
– a phone that is unlocked, quad-band (international use), no contract, no plan 30 million data, no plan to $ 10 System GPS navigation and cost $ 250 ~
– a phone that has strong signal, excellent call quality and long battery life
— a phone that can play music / video / games to surf the Internet, check email, photos and videos provide GPS turn-by-turn and go driving, navigation (North America only) and card services (Global Map is a free download) to offer VoIP Video (call (with 2nd camera in front) over WIFI (Nimbuzz and fring application is downloadable for free) without SIM card good for travel)
;
Some tips for using this phone:
– the touchscreen is a resistive touch screen (unlike iphone capacitive touch-screen). Do not use your “finger tip” on the touch screen controls. Instead, use your “nail” or the included stylus. Personally, I like to “nail” a lot better. When you get used to, everything is a breeze. If your “finger” is as sharp (or blurred) than the included stylus, it will not scratch the screen.
– The user interface takes a some time getting used to. The iPhone user inteface is excellent (and not far away, so I have the honor to whom honor is due.) However, the Nokia 5800 offers excellent and there are many dependents (not officially supported) to download loan applications. No need to download iTunes. No need to wait for applications certified by Apple. Basically, you can download what you want and Do what you want with this phone (such as use as a USB storage device), and it is not an iPhone.
Here – Speech Interface iPhone – he is the one to be paid (money) app, the iPhone, you can buy and install, how can user interface on your Nokia 5800th Getting that there when you really need the user interface of iPhone. Just google “Nokia 5800 MyPhone app” and find find the link and advice.
– Using GPS (no data plan and does not charge for the use of data) to verify
Settings -> Telephone -> Settings app -> Position -> Positioning methods and only “internal GPS.
< , br /> The GPS data, no plan can go up to 5 minutes (or more) with a lock. The GPS signal is weaker than a separate GPS device, and voice navigation does not speak street names. Therefore, it is not a replacement for GPS, but a GPS phone you can use as a dedicated GPS device is not available.
– Surf the Internet and e – mails with WIFI. Make sure that you will not be charged for data usage by getting free
Settings -> Connections -> Destinations -> Internet (or MMS or WAP) — > “Your service provider and make sure” Access point in use “on” to confirm “set.
It is unfortunate that you always ask when you allow an Internet connection, but they are peace of mind that you will never accidentally connect to cellular data network.
– Visiting Chinese (traditional and simplified), Japanese , Korean sites to download Opera Mobile with support for Asian languages “(not the regular Opera Mobile does not work) Mini Opera. Just Google it and find the link to be found.
– Take pictures and videos, while outside, and with good lighting. Poor picture / video quality is provided for every camera phone, if among them inside with dim lighting. Flashing the phone does not. Therefore, it does not replace a digital camera, but a mobile phone camera, which can be used for social outings (such as Facebook mobile uploads).
Some nice to have (but not compulsory) for this device:
– Get a data plan from your service provider if you are an inexpensive alternative compared to the standard $ 30 smartphone data plan. The ability to surf the Internet and e-mails anywhere without Wi-Fi is handy. In addition, the GPS / maps contain additional features, such as traffic, weather, additional point of interest update that requires a data plan. Plus plus, with the data plan allows you to turn-GPS (Assisted GPS) to acquire GPS lock within 30 seconds and a much stronger signal in the GPS can not keep.
And most importantly, enjoy your phone when you’re sitting somewhere nice, like a cafeteria. People are all the others a favor – Do not use your phone (talc or TEXT) while driving. Aid
Hope my review.
I have this phone for four days and four days for me were very happy.
I come from a star touchscreen Samsung and the Nokia 5800 edition Nav flew them. The star of Samsung has been good, but lacks WiFi and GPS.
With this phone you can do almost everything on the road. WiFi Internet? let’s go. Viewing Youtube? No problem. Got lost while driving, walking? He is your Savior.
PROS:
The battery life is decent, if difficult to do, surfing, and GPS navigation.
The battery life is ideal if you do not too much above.
Build quality is good: it has a metallic silver lining on the phone and it is quite difficult to compare my Samsung Star.
GPS free for life: You get free map updates for ever.
integrated GPS, not A (Assisted) GPS as the original 5800 XpressMusic.
I have a Garmin 255W GPS and GPS on this phone is almost up there with precision. The voice on the GPS seems more human than the robot voice on my Garmin. Hey, it’s released a phone that did not receive your GPS expectations too high.
Quad-Band: take the phone anywhere and everywhere sim card and you’re good to go. Yes, I mean AT & T and T-Mobile, too.
Simcard and microSD card slots are located on the side of the phone – unlike many other phones where the battery to short (if you must remove the battery, the SIM card out of place).
phone has two cameras: the main one in the back and a camera self-portrait on the front for all you narcissistic. =)
Comes with many accessories and cables. (Editing automatic navigation is very robust)
The pen is more convenient for writing on the phone.
President is typical for Nokia: good. The music plays loud and clear, even a little low.
The charging time is fast for a high capacity battery.
Good (screen resolution, I think the iPhone is less than 480×320 br) Convenient phone lock / unlock button on the side for thumb radio
CONS:
The main image quality the camera is average and not look like 3rd 2MP
Do not come with screen protector (I had to buy)
keypad dialer has no character when dialing numbers. Could be a problem if you want to select wearing a series of letters. I hope they will solve this problem.
GPS on this phone one or two minutes is blocking the signal. Sometimes a few minutes if you’re not in an open space.
Why I can not think of anything else?
Symbian OS version 5:
This is the first time in this system and it was good for me.
Everything is very responsive and the application installation is a breeze.
You can create a free account to view POI on your phone for free download applications, games and other stuff.
If you want to use one in an Instant Messenger to complete your WiFi, I recommend downloading an approximately known Nimbuzz Ovi, which store and ditch the standard application messaging on your mobile.
Internet browsing is decent, but the screen is a bit small for hours of surfing.
POI too free applications (some payable)
YouTube videos play well, but do not expect it look in HD, as you [on your PC.
. . . ]
Overall, this phone is worth every penny, and if you want to be different and does not have an iPhone, which is getting it.
UPDATE: This phone has the updated firmware V30 with an increase in processor performance. (Open the dialer and press * # 0000 # to see the firmware version)
UPDATE # 2: I played a little with the GPS and found a conclusion that text to speech on the phone gives me more instructions that my Garmin 255W. Although (he does not speak street names, turn only “right”, “left”, “keep right”, “keep left” … etc.), there is more than the Garmin instructions. For example, if I enter a freeway, he told me to follow the road, and if I limit the speed, he told me to watch my speed.
First, let me say that Amazon was lightning fast shipping. I have the phone in 2 days with free shipping.
Unboxing the phone is a treat because it contains tons of accessories included. The car mount is top notch quality. Phone very quickly started and setup is very smooth. 3G signal is very strong and not at the edge switches, as my BB Bold and the iPhone 3G did. You can not ask for more connectivity options, and data speeds are very impressive. There are a ton of 3rd party software available to store both online and Ovi. IPhone App Store, not quality, but still beautiful. I found that most applications have been largely unused on my iPhone lately anyway.
I think the touch screen responds very quickly. Remember, a screen is not capacitive and resistive. It works with a stylus or finger. . . . even with gloves)
The quality is very good, IMO. Music and video are simply amazing on this device. The stereo speakers do an excellent job, or you can use the included earphones or headphones stereo Bluetooth. GPS lock was very fast and very well maintained. There was even the exact street I passed on a residential side street property. Voice prompts are loud, and you get your choice of voice and language. So far, I can not say anything bad about this phone. When I go through all the problems, I’ll update here.
For an unlocked phone without a contract is a bargain right now.
**** EDIT ****< is br /> Now, after a few weeks, the screen is not the welcome screen Nokia white. It’s back to Amazon soon on the road, unfortunately. I like the phone, but I think I’m going back to HTC.
I was a little hesitant about moving from a Nokia E71 to get this phone because the touch screen. I like tactile feedback is pressed and the satisfaction of feeling physically a button. But at the same time, I wanted something new. So far I am very happy with this phone. He has an excellent screen and is very snappy software S60v5 Symbian my “old” is dated to e71. The construction is solid and does not feel cheap at all. The E71 felt “elegant” When I bought, but the 5800 does not feel as fragile as the e71 not. The measures take me about an hour to get out all my usual applications, but it was easy to connect directly to each other and all of my old phone to Bluetooth. Apparently, this phone is hovering around 7 million units sold worldwide, so it must be good. Unfortunately, many of us have iPhones in the United States lined spoon. Which phones are used by this and then some. it 100s of applications and themes and everything there. Overall, I would go for 4. 5 stars because I am perhaps one quarter of its width thinner, but again I think I was just getting used to fine-E71. Great phone.
Since my contract with T-Mobile had expired in July, I found what to do next. I like the plan I have, and customer service from T-Mobile. The only problem is they do not really have a great selection of phones for renewal at a reasonable price. I did not go to AT & T, only a free phone, as I half-minute and texts for the same price I pay with T-Mobile would get for him! Verizon and Sprint is not for me.
A friend told me about unlocked phones so I was lucky enough information on this weekend Black Friday, when the 5800 edition of the Nokia Navigation sale was.
GPS EDIT: To ensure that you only use the integrated GPS and never Carrier Services:
Settings -> Phone -> Settings app -> Position -> methods to detect and disable all “Integrated GPS”.
First, it is NOT a data plan to use GPS, but there are certain things that are not on the access road without them. These include: strengthening the POIs, traffic, weather, satellite and midfielders, etc., but you can see at least what they want to be Wifi. You must change some settings, so you do not use A-GPS, which carrier is supported (it has by default). It takes longer to lock on satellites in this way, but not terribly slow. Then you will go and life, navigation and updates to the map, you can simply use the WiFi for Updates. You can just as many votes. My GPS has over other IT-sounding voice, but they are very clear and realistic. You will also receive weather, traffic, etc. for two years. It is as big as a car cradle and car charger are included. You can use the maps in 2D or 3D version contains 3D models for display areas of the buildings downtown, etc. It is beautiful, the actual construction that you see is gone. In addition, it shows clouds throughout the day and stars at night above the screen, which is a nice gesture. The mini-CD included, you can install Nokia Ovi Suite, if you use the phone to a PC. They also have a map and updated of the charger, you can download.
Music and video
The microSD card 8GB comes with music and videos, which can be clearly extinguished, but is good to get some freebies. It has already been built into the phone when I said. There are good videos, like the device used for other things, and even some music videos! I like the shortcut XpressMusic – very easy access to images, photos, videos, etc. The camera is fairly decent for photos and videos, much better than my old phone, so no complaints really there. It is beautiful, there is a second camera for video calls or still images.
The FM radio is a nice addition if you have to use headphones.
One thing I like the two integrated speakers. They are not his forte and tinny at all.
The phone has a lot of ringtones to choose from. At first I could not find, but then I realized they were in different profiles that you can change. They are all MP3 ringtones with the style of real music, etc.
phone
The quality is excellent and really better Reception with this phone than my predecessor. Voting is easy and can SMS a few different keyboards or handwriting with the stylus. I may also use voice dial – much easier than my last phone. In fact, when a call comes in, even the name of the caller to speak (although very data-voice).
The home screen can be up to four applications or contacts to display. Even less research is that you can search the contents of your phone and the Internet. Optionally, you can also use your e-mail and the link is displayed below the search box.
The phone is solid and robust. It’s a nice size, maybe a little thicker than I do have, but overall it is a beautiful quality. Screen resolution is fantastic. I like the slight vibration when you tap an item to confirm that you have touched. The volume, and unlock buttons on the device are located on the right side, while the SIM card and microSD slots are on the left side. It’s nice to have external, but they suggest you turn off your phone and remove the battery to add or remove the SIM card or a microSD card. At the top of the power button on the phone, headphone jack and micro USB port. />
To find the battery life is also very good. My first charge lasted 3 days with intensive use of everything, including GPS. I expect to use with the light, it will take much longer.
Some applications are included in the dictionary, converter, recorder, file manager, and RealPlayer. Both games (Bounce and Global Race) are also pretty good.
There are a variety of settings that you fiddle around with to get it exactly as you like. < , br />
Overall this is an excellent alternative for those who do not have a contract, but who want a phone with all functions. The GPS function alone makes it worth a fair price.
